Real Estate: 1843 Stone Stunner

In Carleton Place, there are many beautiful homes along the river.
On my morning walk with Grey-dog, I came across one such home with an open house sign, and of course it prompted me to Google Barbara Couch's Remax website.

Built in 1843, this stone stunner has beautifully manicured property.

The front entrance is stately, and gives a small hint of what is inside.

Through the side door, you are greeted immediately into the living space.

The sitting room, has exposed beams and neutral walls, that let the architecture and the furniture shine.

A subtle monogram graces the still working fireplace. I am sure this is a very cozy room in the winter.

A sun-room off of the sitting area is perfect for serving that mint julep during that mid-summer soiree. You know... 'cause we all have that...

Moving into the dining room on the other side of the sitting room - I love the vintage bar cart. I also love the way the warm wood plays off of the cool grey and white trim.

The kitchen is a cook's paradise. The appliances blend seamlessly into the cabinets thanks to the white colour and the cleverly disguised refrigerator.

A lot of counter space and two levels (thanks to a high island) to work from, make this a hugely functional kitchen as well.

Utilizing one side of the island as a breakfast bar, beyond is the eat-in kitchen table. Another stove here along the original stone house, indicates that the kitchen is where the addition has begun.

A small TV room around the corner boasts a great side table that my friend and former teammate, Drunky Brewster, will find absolutely irresistible. You will understand after I photograph her quirky space later this summer.

The entertainment centre looks well equipped to handle whatever viewing is to take place.

Just off of the TV room is the first of the bedrooms. The vaulted ceiling and amount of light in this space is amazing.

Even better is the attached ensuite. No doors required, as the pane-glass partition serves as a barrier between the tub and the bedroom.

I still have a 'thing' for separate toilet areas. You may recall from Victoria's Victorian Restoration.

Moving on upstairs, there are more delectable spaces to enjoy.

First up, the red room. Wow, does that ever highlight the original tall white base boards, which in turn, showcases the original knotty pine floors. The tilting ceiling planes add a lot of character to this room as well.

Of course no space is complete without a small office hidden in a nook and a fantastic ensuite bath that features a corner toilet for space maximization. Clever.

The next room is more neutral with red accents, so that it still helps tie the upstairs spaces together.

And of course, this room must have its own ensuite as well.

Did I mention that this place has a guest house? Oh... ya... it does.
You can see the kitchenette off of a sitting area - really what more would your guest need?

Another beautiful bed to curl up into, perhaps?

And its own bathroom to give all that hotel at home feeling.

With its own deck, it really does feel like a home away from home.

And what a view!

Speaking of veiws, this is the side of the property. The layered deck comes down onto a stone patio.

The stone is consistent around the property, being shown here as the stone barrier between this and the neighbours.

Being on a river, means you need to have a dock. This one faces the old mill and the beach beyond.
Gorgeous.

And finally, what is the use of a dock if you don't have a boat with its very own boat house?

    1. Good to know.
I am going to try and post a lot more random shots of CP in the future. The last time I tried, however, was during Wine'd Around Downtown, and I think I got too tipsy to get any good photos. :p
