I Love Lamp: Articulating Floor Lamp

I found this little gem at my favorite second-hand furniture shop for $8. The shop is a little out of the way, but they often have some really great items. If you like something, however, you have to buy it on the spot, lest it get taken away by someone else.

The point of this post is just to show how a subtle and easy change can make a difference in how a piece feels. For example, I love that by simply changing the shade can give a tired lamp a new life.

The shade itself is an Ikea shade; inexpensive, simple, elegant. The thing you need to know about Ikea shades, however, is that they do not fit non-Ikea lamps. There does end up having to be a bit of hacking to get it to fit, and trust me, every lamp is slightly different. Sometimes it is as easy as buying a large metal washer to hold down the shade. Other times, it requires a more creative approach. This project did well with a bit of malleable eraser putty to keep the shade secure.
