Architectural Drawings: Hot Dog Style

I got these awesome detail drawings from my Stepfather.
Given that I am a designer, he knew I would flip for these blueprints of non-traditional items.

There were two; a hot dog and a hamburger.

I mean, come on. These are so delightfully silly, and detailed.

These are crazy-awesome; of course, I am putting them up.

I framed them up, and switched up my gallery wall in the kitchen.

I needed to fill some space, so I threw some items together - an abstraction pattern exercise, plus a frame, did nicely. (I always liked the first watercolour).

I added some spring flowers, because... just because.

I love the new addition to my walls. I adore the interesting cast of the fading light today.

  1. I love these! I bought a book for my dad that was similar - architectural drawings of cocktails. He's an architect too and who doesn't love a cocktail (or hotdog or hamburger, for that matter).

    1. Cocktails! That is brilliant. I feel like some days I do nothing but millwork drawings (elevations, sections, details) and this kind of gave me a fresh perspective on what started to feel like mundane work. Next time I am starting a drawing package, I will try to have as much passion for the millwork as I do for the floor plans.

  2. Oh Pat. These are amazing! I had a quick Google online just there for architectural drawing of kids toys for the nursery, but it didn't amount to much. I then had a most excellent of ideas to ask my dad (an architect) if he would draw something for us.

I feel like a total leech. I'm always nabbing ideas from you! :P x

    1. It is not nabbing ideas, it is gleaning inspiration! I think drawing kids toys is an absolutely steller idea. I never would have thought of it!

  3. My dad has the hot dog version of this but the burger was lost in a move years ago and I've never seen these anywhere else. Would you ever consider having that image scanned and sending it to me? It would be such a big deal

    1. Yes, I can do that for you. They are not perfect, mind you. Some years and tape.

    2. Good morning Pat!
I've had the hamburger one framed in our kitchen for years and have no clue where/when I purchased. Like Laura above, can I bother you just for the hot dog image so I can print and frame. I have searched online ad nauseam with no luck. dassvg1@gmail.com

  4. These are hilarious! I love your setup too! If you ever scanned or photographed them, I'd love to just look at them in detail if you could share.

  6. My father had this exact poster hanging in his kitchen! He recently passed away suddenly and I would love to get copies of it for my sisters! I know it has been a while but would your stepfather remember where he got it or is there any information on the image itself that might give a clue as to where to find one? Any information you have would be greatly appreciated!!

    2. Hi Pat! I am Catherine’s sister (comment above) I’m sure my sister was too shy to ask, but we have looked everywhere for this hotdog poster. It was so special to my dad and since his passing we have not been able to find it. Would you be at all willing to scan it in and send it to us? It would mean the world to us.💗Beth E. 3. Hey send another message in a week. I'm currently out of the country and will totally forget without a reminder.
